What HERON THERAPEUTICS, INC. does

In the company’s own words

Heron Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: HRTX) is a commercial-stage biotechnology company focused on developing and commercializing therapeutic innovations for acute care and oncology patients. The company operates through two primary product portfolios addressing distinct medical markets.

The acute care portfolio includes ZYNRELEF, a dual-acting local anesthetic combining bupivacaine and meloxicam that delivers extended-release pain relief for up to 72 hours following surgical procedures, and APONVIE, an intravenous formulation of aprepitant designed for prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting in adults. The oncology care portfolio comprises CINVANTI, an intravenous NK1 receptor antagonist for prevention of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, and SUSTOL, an extended-release 5-HT3 receptor antagonist utilizing the company's proprietary Biochronomer Technology for sustained therapeutic delivery over five or more days.

Heron's core competitive advantage centers on its proprietary Biochronomer Technology, a polymer-based drug delivery system designed to provide controlled, sustained release of therapeutic agents over extended periods from a single administration. This technology enables multimodal therapy delivery and represents a significant differentiation in the company's product offerings.

The company maintains a U.S.-based sales and marketing infrastructure of 78 employees as of December 31, 2025, consisting of a targeted acute care and oncology sales force supported by sales management, marketing, and distribution teams. In January 2024, Heron established a co-promotion agreement with Crosslink Network to expand ZYNRELEF's market reach within orthopedic indications. Products are distributed through specialty distributors and full-line wholesalers to healthcare providers and hospitals.

Heron does not operate its own manufacturing facilities and relies on third-party contract manufacturers for production of active pharmaceutical ingredients, excipients, and finished products in compliance with FDA current Good Manufacturing Practices. The company holds substantial intellectual property protection across its portfolio, including 33 issued U.S. patents and 107 issued foreign patents as of December 31, 2025, with patent protections for key products extending through the mid-2030s.
