What Humacyte, Inc. does
In the company’s own words
Humacyte, Inc. (Nasdaq: HUMACYTE) is a commercial-stage biotechnology company pioneering the development and manufacturing of universally implantable, bioengineered human tissues at commercial scale. The company's website is www.humacyte.com.
The company's core product is Symvess, an acellular tissue engineered vessel (ATEV) that received FDA approval in December 2024 for use in adults as a vascular conduit for extremity arterial injury when urgent revascularization is needed to avoid imminent limb loss and autologous vein graft is not feasible. Humacyte commenced U.S. commercial launch of Symvess in the first quarter of 2025. The company is developing a portfolio of ATEVs with varying diameters and lengths targeting multiple vascular indications and therapeutic areas.
Humacyte's proprietary scientific technology platform uses primary human aortic vascular cells that are cultured on a biodegradable polymer mesh within a bioreactor bag. Over several weeks, cells proliferate and build extracellular matrix while the polymer degrades. The resulting bioengineered vessel is then decellularized using proprietary solutions, retaining biomechanical properties while removing cellular components that could trigger immune rejection. This approach enables off-the-shelf, universally implantable tissues without requiring immunosuppression.
The company operates an 83,000 square foot bioprocessing facility housing its modular LUNA200 manufacturing system, with eight units currently operational and capacity to expand to over 40 systems. This manufacturing paradigm is designed to produce thousands of ATEVs annually while maintaining critical operating parameters.
Beyond vascular trauma, Humacyte is conducting Phase 3 clinical trials for arteriovenous access in hemodialysis, with positive topline results reported in 2024. The company previously completed Phase 2 trials in peripheral artery disease and is developing applications for coronary artery bypass grafting, pediatric heart surgery, and pancreatic islet cell delivery for Type 1 diabetes treatment through its BioVascular Pancreas platform.
As of December 31, 2025, approximately 636 patients worldwide have received ATEVs across clinical trials and expanded access programs, representing approximately 1,363 subject-years of exposure. The company has established a strategic partnership with Fresenius Medical Care for distribution of its 6 millimeter ATEV in specified markets and indications.
