The company's primary product offering is the KARNO Power Module, a modular, fully enclosed, fuel-agnostic power generating solution powered by the KARNO Core, a heat-powered linear generator. The KARNO Power Module produces electricity with significant improvements in efficiency, emissions, and lifecycle cost compared to conventional generation technologies. The system operates using a wide range of fuel sources, including natural gas, propane, diesel, waste fuels such as landfill gas and wellhead gas, and zero-carbon fuels such as renewable hydrogen and ammonia. The initial KARNO Power Module is a 200 kilowatt system featuring a compact rectangular design with a footprint of approximately 25 square feet. The company is also developing larger Multi-MW systems and an 800 kilowatt modular system for the U.S. Navy.
Hyliion targets the datacenter, commercial, industrial, and defense sectors with its distributed power generation solutions. The company plans to scale the KARNO Power Module to address larger utility-scale power needs and develop future variants for industrial waste heat recovery, nuclear applications, household use, and e-mobility applications including vehicles and marine vessels.
As of December 31, 2025, the company employed approximately 113 full-time employees, all located within the United States. The KARNO technology was acquired from General Electric in September 2022 and is protected by 73 issued U.S. patents, 16 pending U.S. patent applications, 32 foreign patents, and 21 foreign patent applications. In July 2025, the company was awarded a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research contract worth up to $1.5 million by the U.S. Department of the Navy's Office of Naval Research, building upon a previous $16 million contract awarded in 2024.
