What Investar Holding Corp does
In the company’s own words
Investar Holding Corporation operates as a financial holding company providing comprehensive commercial and retail banking services through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Investar Bank, National Association. The company maintains its principal executive offices in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and serves customers across south Louisiana, Texas, and Alabama through 36 full-service branches and an operations center.
The company's core business centers on lending activities, which comprised 83 percent of total revenue in 2025. Investar's lending portfolio is diversified across commercial real estate loans representing approximately 48 percent of total loans, commercial and industrial loans comprising 27 percent, construction and development loans at 7 percent, and residential real estate loans at 17 percent. The remaining portfolio consists of consumer loans representing less than 1 percent of total loans. Commercial real estate lending focuses on owner-occupied properties, multifamily housing, and farmland, while commercial and industrial lending includes working capital lines of credit, equipment financing, and public finance loans to governmental entities. The company exited the consumer mortgage origination business in the third quarter of 2023, though it maintains a portfolio of approximately $224.5 million in consumer mortgage loans.
Beyond lending, Investar provides deposit products including savings, checking, and money market accounts, certificates of deposit, and individual retirement accounts. The company offers treasury management services for business clients, including remote deposit capture, positive pay, wire transfers, and credit card processing. Consumer banking services encompass debit cards, mobile banking with smartphone deposit capability, and contactless banking options through interactive teller machines and online account opening.
As of December 31, 2025, the company reported consolidated total assets of $2.8 billion, net loans of $2.1 billion, total deposits of $2.4 billion, and stockholders' equity of $301.1 million. The company has completed eight whole-bank acquisitions since its 2006 charter, most recently acquiring Wichita Falls Bancshares, Inc. on January 1, 2026, which added $1.2 billion in assets and six additional branches to its Texas operations. Investar's strategy emphasizes consistent quality earnings through balance sheet optimization, originating primarily variable-rate loans while allowing higher-risk relationships to run off, combined with growth through strategic acquisitions and organic expansion in its core markets.
