The company's primary business segment is title insurance, conducted through two wholly owned underwriting subsidiaries: Investors Title Insurance Company (ITIC) and National Investors Title Insurance Company (NITIC). These subsidiaries issue residential and commercial title insurance policies protecting property owners and mortgagees against losses from title defects. ITIC operates as a licensed title insurer in 44 states and the District of Columbia, primarily in the eastern United States, while NITIC is licensed in 20 states and the District of Columbia with primary operations in Texas. Title insurance represents the largest revenue source for the company, with North Carolina, Texas, Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida accounting for approximately 85.5% of total premiums written.
The company's second reportable segment comprises tax-deferred real property exchange services provided through subsidiaries Investors Title Exchange Corporation (ITEC) and Investors Title Accommodation Corporation (ITAC). These entities serve as qualified intermediaries and exchange accommodation titleholders for Section 1031 like-kind exchanges under the Internal Revenue Code, generating income from transaction fees and interest earned on client deposits.
Additional business lines include management services to title insurance agencies through Investors Title Management Services (ITMS) and investment management and trust services through Investors Trust Company. These operations are collectively reported as "All Other" segments.
The company employed 548 full-time employees and 26 part-time employees as of December 31, 2025. The title insurance business operates through a network of issuing agents including real estate attorneys, independent agents, and subsidiaries of mortgage lending institutions. The company's competitive positioning relies on financial strength, service quality, pricing within regulatory parameters, and expertise in complex transactions. The title insurance industry remains highly concentrated, with the four largest companies maintaining greater than 80% of the United States market share.
