The company operates through two primary insurance segments: Excess and Surplus Lines and Specialty Admitted Insurance, along with a Corporate and Other segment managing holding company activities and treasury functions.
The Excess and Surplus Lines segment, which generated 82.1% of gross written premiums in 2025, writes non-admitted commercial lines liability and property insurance through James River Insurance Company and James River Casualty Company across all U.S. states and the District of Columbia. This segment underwrites through five primary divisions: Excess Casualty, Primary Casualty, Manufacturers and Contractors, Specialty, and Excess Property. The Specialty Admitted Insurance segment, representing 17.9% of gross written premiums, operates through Falls Lake National Insurance Company and its subsidiaries, primarily writing fronting business where the company retains a minority share of risk while earning fee income.
For the year ended December 31, 2025, the company wrote $1.17 billion in gross written premiums, with approximately 84.5% originating from the excess and surplus lines market and 96.7% derived from casualty insurance.
