KBR operates through two core business segments: Mission Technology Solutions and Sustainable Technology Solutions. The Mission Technology Solutions segment provides full life-cycle support to defense, intelligence, space and aviation programs for military and government agencies primarily in the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. This segment generates approximately 57 percent of consolidated revenues and encompasses research and development, advanced prototyping, acquisition support, systems engineering, cyber analytics, space domain awareness, test and evaluation, data analytics and integration, systems integration and program management, global supply chain management and operations readiness support. Key customers include U.S. Department of War agencies, NASA, U.S. civilian agencies and foreign governments. The Sustainable Technology Solutions segment, representing the remaining revenue, is anchored by a portfolio of over 85 proprietary, sustainability-focused process technologies that reduce emissions and accelerate energy transition. This segment provides advisory services, engineering, design and program management centered on decarbonization and energy efficiency, along with digitally-enabled operating solutions.
As of January 2, 2026, KBR employed approximately 36,000 people across operations in over 28 countries, with an additional 9,000 employees in unconsolidated joint ventures. The company maintains a backlog of unfulfilled orders valued at $16.9 billion. KBR's competitive advantages include its mission-focused culture, internationally recognized subject matter experts with deep domain knowledge, sustainability leadership including carbon neutrality since 2019, high-end differentiated technical capabilities spanning government and commercial missions, and decades of enduring customer relationships. The company maintains a low capital intensity business model generating favorable operating cash flows and strong liquidity. In September 2025, KBR announced its intention to spin off the Mission Technology Solutions business into a separate publicly-traded company, targeting completion in the second half of fiscal 2026.
