What Lineage Cell Therapeutics, Inc. does
In the company’s own words
Lineage Cell Therapeutics, Inc. (NYSE American: LCTX) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing allogeneic cell replacement therapies to treat serious medical conditions caused by the loss or dysfunction of critical cellular activity. The company operates through its proprietary AlloSCOPE platform, which enables the manufacturing of mature, differentiated replacement cells derived from pluripotent stem cell lines. Rather than administering stem cells directly to patients, Lineage manufactures specialized human cells with anatomical and physiological functions identical to naturally occurring cells, then transplants them to restore or enhance patient function.
The company's pipeline includes multiple programs at varying stages of development. OpRegen, its most clinically advanced asset, is an allogeneic retinal pigmented epithelial cell therapy in Phase 2a development under a worldwide collaboration with F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd. and Genentech, Inc. for treating geographic atrophy secondary to dry age-related macular degeneration. OPC1, an allogeneic oligodendrocyte progenitor cell therapy for spinal cord injury, represents the company's most advanced internally owned program and is currently in Phase 1 safety studies with a novel delivery device. Additional programs include ReSonance, an auditory neuron progenitor cell therapy in preclinical development under collaboration with William Demant Invest 2 Aps; ILT1, a research initiative for potential Type 1 Diabetes treatment; RND1, a hypoimmune induced pluripotent stem cell line developed with Factor Biosciences Limited; PNC1, a photoreceptor cell therapy research initiative; and LCT-CON, an undisclosed research program.
Lineage maintains corporate headquarters in Carlsbad, California, and operates a state-of-the-art cGMP manufacturing facility in Jerusalem, Israel, at the Jerusalem Bio Park on the Hadassah University Hospital campus. All current manufacturing operations, including cell banking and product manufacturing, are conducted through the company's subsidiary Cell Cure Neurosciences Ltd. The company has demonstrated the ability to complete cGMP production runs for multiple product candidates and successfully utilized manufactured cells in FDA-cleared clinical trials. The AlloSCOPE platform's application across multiple programs provides operational leverage and cost efficiency in pipeline expansion.
