The company's lead investigational product, certepetide, formerly known as LSTA1 or CEND-1, represents the core of Lisata's pipeline and operates through the proprietary CendR Platform. Certepetide is designed to activate the C-end rule active transport mechanism, a naturally occurring transport system that enables co-administered or molecularly bound anti-cancer drugs to penetrate solid tumors more effectively. By targeting tumor vasculature and endothelial cells through selective affinity for alpha-v beta-3 and alpha-v beta-5 integrins, certepetide undergoes proteolytic cleavage to release a CendR peptide fragment that binds to neuropilin-1 receptors, facilitating enhanced drug delivery. Beyond improving drug penetration, certepetide modifies the tumor microenvironment by reducing immunosuppressive T-regulatory cells and augmenting cytotoxic T cells, thereby enhancing susceptibility to immunotherapies while inhibiting metastatic progression.
Lisata's intellectual property portfolio includes two pending patent applications in the United States and thirteen pending applications internationally, covering methods for reducing tumor volume using certepetide in combination with various anti-cancer agents and therapies.
