In the company’s own words
Marathon Petroleum Corporation (NYSE: MPC) is an integrated downstream and midstream energy company that refines crude oil, markets fuels, and operates energy transportation and processing infrastructure. Its Refining & Marketing segment produces gasoline, diesel and other refined products, petrochemicals, propane and asphalt, selling to wholesale customers, independent retailers, branded jobbers, direct dealers and export buyers. Its Midstream segment gathers, processes, transports, stores and distributes crude oil, natural gas, natural gas liquids and refined products, primarily through MPLX, a master limited partnership in which Marathon owns the general partner and about 64% of the common units. The Renewable Diesel segment processes renewable feedstocks and markets renewable diesel, including production through joint ventures. The company operates refineries across the Gulf Coast, Mid-Continent and West Coast regions, with approximately 3.0 million barrels per day of crude oil refining capacity. Its retail fuel outlets include independent Marathon-branded locations and direct dealers operating mainly under the ARCO brand. Marathon was spun off from Marathon Oil in 2011 and sold its Speedway retail business in 2021. Its website is www.marathonpetroleum.com.
