The company's proprietary technology platform, developed in-house and custom-built for the unique demands of derivatives and equities trading, serves as a cornerstone of its competitive positioning.
MIAX operates four fully automated electronic options exchanges in the United States, each with distinct allocation and pricing models: MIAX Options, MIAX Pearl Options, MIAX Emerald Options, and MIAX Sapphire Options. These exchanges collectively traded 2.4 billion contracts in 2025, representing a 17.1% market share. The company also operates MIAX Pearl Equities, a cash equities exchange launched in 2020 that traded 45.8 billion shares in 2025 with a 1.0% market share.
Beyond U.S. options and equities, MIAX maintains a broad portfolio of exchange and clearing licenses. MIAX Futures, acquired in 2020, operates as a fully electronic, vertically integrated futures exchange and clearing house registered with the CFTC as both a designated contract market and derivatives clearing organization. Dorman Trading, acquired in 2022, functions as a full-service Futures Commission Merchant providing execution and clearing services across multiple futures exchanges.
Internationally, MIAX operates The Bermuda Stock Exchange, a vertically integrated securities market specializing in equities, debt, funds, and insurance-linked securities, and The International Stock Exchange in Guernsey, a leading European venue for high-yield bonds, private equity debt, and securitization transactions. In July 2024, MIAX entered into a master index services license agreement with Bloomberg to develop proprietary index futures and options products.
