What MYOMO, INC. does
In the company’s own words
Myomo, Inc. (NYSE American: MYO) is a wearable medical robotics company headquartered in Burlington, Massachusetts that develops and commercializes the MyoPro product line, a myoelectric-controlled upper limb orthosis designed to restore functional movement to individuals with neuromuscular disorders and upper limb paralysis. The company's website is www.myomo.com.
The MyoPro is a custom-fabricated brace that uses advanced electromyography (EMG) control technology to detect weak muscle signals from patients with partial paralysis and activate motors to assist limb movement. The device enables users to self-initiate and control movements of weakened or paralyzed arms using their own muscle signals, helping improve activities of daily living such as feeding, reaching, and lifting. The orthosis is indicated for patients with conditions including stroke, brachial plexus injury, spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and cerebral palsy.
Myomo operates primarily through a direct billing sales channel where the company evaluates, fits, and bills insurance companies directly for devices, though it also sells through orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) providers, the Veterans Administration, and international markets including the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Italy, and Australia. The company's flagship product is the MyoPro2x, introduced in April 2025, which incorporates enhanced features including more intuitive donning, 3D printed orthotics capability, and software improvements. The MyoPro is classified as a Class II FDA device and is billed under two HCPCS codes: L8701 and L8702, with L8702 (Motion G powered grasp) representing approximately 96 percent of product revenue.
Myomo holds 35 issued U.S. and international patents with expiration dates ranging from 2027 through 2042, along with 14 pending patent applications. The company's intellectual property includes proprietary myoelectric control software and mechanical designs developed over more than a decade of research and development. The addressable market in the United States encompasses an estimated 3.8 million stroke survivors with moderate to severe upper extremity impairment, with approximately 40,000 to 80,000 new potential patients annually. Myomo operates as a single business segment focused on establishing market leadership in myoelectric limb orthotics.
