What National Presto Industries, Inc. does

In the company’s own words

National Presto Industries, Inc. (NYSE: NPK) operates through three distinct business segments serving consumer and defense markets. The company maintains its corporate presence and primary website at www.gopresto.com.

The Housewares/Small Appliance segment designs, markets, and distributes a comprehensive range of consumer products including pressure cookers and canners, electric skillets, griddles, slow cookers, deep fryers, waffle makers, pizza ovens, air fryers, dehydrators, vacuum sealers, coffeemakers, and electric heaters. Cast products and noncast thermal appliances each represent approximately nine percent of consolidated net sales. The segment sources the majority of its housewares from vendors in Asia and sells primarily through retailers and independent distributors in the United States and Canada. This segment operates seasonally with peak sales occurring in the fourth quarter ahead of the holiday season. The Presto trademark represents a material asset to the company's business.

The Defense segment manufactures ordnance and precision components for the United States Department of Defense and prime contractors. Operating through subsidiaries including AMTEC Corporation, Spectra Technologies LLC, and divisions such as Amron and Tech Ord, this segment produces 40mm ammunition, cartridge cases for medium caliber ammunition, precision mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies, detonators, booster pellets, and metal parts. The Defense segment maintains manufacturing facilities spanning approximately 948,000 square feet across Wisconsin, Arkansas, South Dakota, and Texas. The segment's contract backlog reached approximately $1.7 billion as of December 31, 2025, with anticipated production and shipment over an 18 to 42-month period.

The Safety segment comprises startup-stage operations focused on innovative safety technology. Rely Innovations, Inc. offers smoke and carbon monoxide detection devices with multilingual voice alerts and digital displays, while the segment also markets economy-line alarms and PFAS-free commercial fire extinguishers. This segment operates leased facilities in Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Illinois.

As of December 31, 2025, the company employed 1,200 people across its operations. The company maintains significant inventory levels to support customer demand, particularly for seasonal products and defense contracts requiring rapid fulfillment capabilities.
