In the company’s own words
OPENLANE, Inc. (NYSE: OPLN) operates as a leading digital marketplace for wholesale used vehicles across the United States, Canada, and Europe. The company's website is corporate.openlane.com. OPENLANE facilitates approximately 1.5 million annual vehicle transactions with a gross merchandise value of $28.8 billion, connecting automotive manufacturers, dealers, rental companies, fleet operators, captive finance companies, and lending institutions as both buyers and sellers.
The company operates through two reportable business segments: Marketplace, which generates 78% of revenues, and Finance, which accounts for 22%. The Marketplace segment provides digital platforms including OPENLANE US, OPENLANE Canada, and OPENLANE Europe, offering wholesale vehicle sales through online and mobile applications available 24 hours daily. The company generates revenue through buyer and seller fees, as well as value-added ancillary services including SaaS-based remarketing technology, transportation logistics, vehicle inspection and certification, titling services, and administrative support. For commercial customers, OPENLANE operates proprietary SaaS-based platforms supporting more than 40 private label digital remarketing applications representing the majority of North American manufacturers and captive finance companies.
The Finance segment operates through Automotive Finance Corporation (AFC), a wholly-owned subsidiary providing short-term inventory-secured floorplan financing to independent vehicle dealers across North America. AFC serviced approximately 1.7 million loan transactions in 2025 through a hybrid network of approximately 90 physical locations and digital servicing centers. AFC maintains approximately 11,600 active dealers with an average line of credit of approximately $379,000.
OPENLANE employs approximately 4,800 people, with roughly 2,000 located in the United States and 2,800 in Canada, Europe, Uruguay, and the Philippines. The company's history includes its 2011 acquisition of the OPENLANE brand, the 2019 tax-free spinoff of Insurance Auto Auctions, and the 2022 sale of ADESA's U.S. physical assets. The company rebranded from KAR Auction Services to OPENLANE in 2023, consolidating its technology platforms into a unified digital marketplace experience. In December 2025, the company changed its NYSE ticker symbol from KAR to OPLN to better align with its digital strategy and brand identity.
