In the company’s own words
OPKO Health, Inc. (NASDAQ: OPK) is a diversified healthcare company operating through two primary reportable segments: pharmaceuticals and diagnostics. The company develops and commercializes innovative pharmaceutical products, diagnostic services, and biotechnology solutions across multiple therapeutic areas and geographic markets.
The pharmaceutical segment encompasses OPKO's global product portfolio and research and development operations. NGENLA (somatrogon-ghla), a once-weekly human growth hormone injection approved in more than 50 countries including the United States, European Union, Japan, Canada, and Australia, represents a cornerstone product developed in partnership with Pfizer. Rayaldee, an FDA-approved treatment for secondary hyperparathyroidism in chronic kidney disease patients, has secured marketing authorizations in eleven European countries and is advancing in mainland China through strategic partnerships. The company operates established revenue-generating pharmaceutical platforms in Spain, Ireland, Chile, and Mexico. EirGen Pharma, the Irish subsidiary, specializes in high-potency oral solid dose pharmaceutical manufacturing and exports to over sixty countries. ModeX Therapeutics, a biotechnology subsidiary acquired in 2022, develops multispecific immune therapies for cancer and infectious diseases utilizing proprietary MSTAR and nanoparticle vaccine platforms. The company is advancing multiple clinical programs including tetraspecific antibodies for solid and hematological tumors, an in vivo CAR-T program, and vaccine candidates including an Epstein-Barr virus vaccine developed in collaboration with Merck.
The diagnostics segment consists of BioReference Health, a specialized laboratory providing clinical testing services. Following strategic divestitures in 2024 and 2025, BioReference has refocused on core clinical testing operations in New York and New Jersey, national specialty urology services, and the proprietary 4Kscore prostate cancer biomarker test. The 4Kscore test, FDA-approved and recommended by major cancer organizations, measures four prostate-derived kallikrein proteins to assess aggressive prostate cancer probability.
OPKO operates approximately 1,373 employees across its diagnostics division and maintains a global footprint supporting its diversified pharmaceutical operations. The company's strategy emphasizes advancing its multispecific antibody pipeline, expanding NGENLA's global market share, executing Rayaldee's international expansion, and scaling high-margin specialty diagnostics.
