Opus Genetics, Inc. (Nasdaq: OPGS) is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing gene therapies and other treatments for inherited retinal diseases and ophthalmic disorders. The company was founded in February 2018 as Ocuphire Pharma, Inc. and has undergone several significant transactions, including a merger with Ocularis Pharma in 2018, acquisition of rights to the Ref-1 inhibitor program in 2020, a reverse merger with publicly traded Rexahn Pharmaceuticals in 2020, and the acquisition of Private Opus Genetics in October 2024.
The company's primary focus is developing gene therapies based on adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors to address the underlying genetic causes of severe retinal disorders. The pipeline includes seven AAV-based programs in various stages of development, with OPGx-LCA5 for Leber congenital amaurosis and OPGx-BEST1 for BEST1-related retinal degeneration as the most advanced candidates.
