Perma-Fix Environmental Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: PESI) is a nuclear services company and leading provider of nuclear and mixed waste management services headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. The company operates through two primary reporting segments: the Treatment Segment and the Services Segment.
The Treatment Segment, which generated 73.1% of total revenue in 2025, encompasses nuclear, low-level radioactive, mixed, hazardous, and non-hazardous waste treatment, processing, and disposal services. This segment operates through four uniquely licensed and permitted treatment and storage facilities: Perma-Fix of Florida, Diversified Scientific Services, Perma-Fix Northwest Richland, and Environmental Waste Operations Center. The segment also conducts research and development activities to identify and implement innovative waste-processing techniques for problematic waste streams, including the company's patent-pending Perma-FAS system for the destruction of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, commonly known as forever chemicals.
The Services Segment, representing 26.9% of revenue in 2025, provides technical services including professional radiological measurement, health physics services, occupational safety and health services, and global technical consulting. This segment also offers nuclear decommissioning and decontamination services, license termination support, and equipment calibration and maintenance laboratory services.
Perma-Fix serves research institutions, commercial companies, public utilities, and governmental entities, including the U.S. Department of Energy and Department of War. The company generates approximately 63.6% of revenue from federal government entities, either directly as a prime contractor or indirectly as a subcontractor. International operations contributed approximately 10.4% of consolidated revenue in 2025, with the company pursuing waste projects in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and European Union countries.
As of December 31, 2025, the company employed approximately 307 full-time and part-time employees. The company maintains extensive federal, state, and local environmental permits and licenses necessary to operate its waste treatment facilities, which serve as significant barriers to entry in the industry.
