What Ramaco Resources, Inc. does
In the company’s own words
Ramaco Resources, Inc. (NASDAQ: METC) operates as a dual platform critical mineral company engaged in the development and operation of metallurgical coal properties and rare earth element and critical mineral mining. The company maintains principal corporate offices in Lexington, Kentucky with operational facilities in Charleston, West Virginia and Sheridan, Wyoming.
The company's metallurgical coal segment represents its primary business, with operations organized around four major mining complexes: Elk Creek, Berwind, Knox Creek, and Maben, all located in southern West Virginia and southwestern Virginia. Ramaco controls approximately 85 million reserve tons and 1,337 million measured and indicated resource tons of high-quality metallurgical coal across these properties. As of December 31, 2025, the company operated eight active mines across its complexes with an estimated annual production capacity of approximately four million clean tons of coal, with plans to potentially exceed seven million clean tons annually in coming years. The company sold 3.8 million tons of coal during 2025, generating $536.6 million in revenue, with 37 percent from North American markets and 63 percent from export markets.
The rare earth elements and critical minerals segment centers on the Brook Mine located near Sheridan, Wyoming, consisting of approximately 15,800 acres of controlled mineral rights. The Brook Mine hosts an unconventional deposit of rare earth elements and critical minerals embedded in coal seams and carbonaceous materials, including neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium, terbium, yttrium, gallium, germanium, and scandium. In July 2025, Fluor Corporation issued a Preliminary Economic Assessment concluding the Brook Mine was both technically and economically viable.
Ramaco markets its metallurgical coal production to North American integrated steel mills and coke plants as well as international customers across Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa. The company holds more than 70 intellectual property patents and pending applications related to advanced carbon products conversion, with exclusive licensing agreements extending 14 to 20 years. The company's strategy emphasizes maintaining a conservative capital structure while developing its advantaged reserve base and pursuing growth opportunities in rare earth elements and critical minerals.
