The business

RLI Corp. (NASDAQ: RLI) operates as a specialty insurance company providing select property, casualty, and surety products through its insurance subsidiaries. The company's website is located at http://www.rlicorp.com. Founded in 1965, RLI conducts operations through three primary insurance companies: RLI Insurance Company, which serves as the principal subsidiary writing multiple lines of insurance on an admitted basis across all 50 states and U.S. territories; Mt. Hawley Insurance Company, which writes excess and surplus lines insurance on a non-admitted basis; and Contractors Bonding and Insurance Company, which provides multiple lines of admitted insurance. All three subsidiaries are domiciled in Illinois.

The company operates across three reportable segments. The casualty segment, representing 60 percent of net premiums earned, includes commercial excess and personal umbrella coverage, commercial transportation insurance, general liability, professional services liability, small commercial packages, executive products including directors and officers liability, and other casualty lines. The property segment comprises 31 percent of net premiums earned and includes commercial property coverage, marine insurance covering cargo and hull exposures, and specialized homeowners insurance. The surety segment accounts for 9 percent of net premiums earned and encompasses transactional bonds, commercial surety bonds, and contract bonds for construction projects.

RLI distributes its products through a diverse network of wholesale and retail brokers, independent agents, carrier partners, underwriting agents, and direct digital platforms. The company specializes in underwriting risks that do not fit standard market criteria, competing on availability, coverage, service, and value rather than price alone. As of December 31, 2025, RLI employed 1,193 associates throughout the United States with an average tenure of 8.1 years. The company maintains financial strength ratings of A+ from AM Best, A from Standard & Poor's, and A2 from Moody's for its primary insurance subsidiaries. RLI generated net premiums earned of approximately $1.6 billion in 2025 and maintains a diversified investment portfolio focused on capital preservation and long-term value creation.

Fund ownership counts N-PORT filers only, so it is a floor rather than a census — pensions, insurers and direct holders are not visible here, and the remainder is not “held by individuals”.

Fund ownership is a subset of institutional 13F ownership — the two describe overlapping populations and must not be added together.
