The company traces its construction heritage back over a century through legacy operations from Morrison Knudsen and Washington Group International, which were consolidated by AECOM in 2017. Shimmick became an independent company in 2021 following its sale by AECOM and completed its initial public offering in November 2023.
Shimmick's core business focuses on designing and constructing complex water and critical infrastructure projects. The company specializes in water treatment and resources, including wastewater recycling systems, desalination plants, dams, reservoirs, and water conveyance infrastructure. Beyond water, Shimmick serves other critical infrastructure markets including climate resilience projects such as levees and flood control systems, mass transit systems including light rail and bus rapid transit, and energy transition facilities.
