What Skye Bioscience, Inc. does
In the company’s own words
Skye Bioscience, Inc. (Nasdaq: SKYE) is a clinical-stage biotechnology company pioneering next-generation molecules that modulate G-protein-coupled receptors to treat obesity, overweight, and metabolic disorders. The company's website is www.skyebio.com.
The company's lead candidate, nimacimab, is a peripherally restricted negative allosteric modulating antibody targeting cannabinoid receptor 1, a key GPCR involved in metabolic regulation. Nimacimab was acquired through Skye's August 2023 acquisition of Bird Rock Bio, Inc., a privately held clinical-stage biotechnology company. As a humanized IgG4 antibody, nimacimab is designed to inhibit CB1 receptors outside the central nervous system while avoiding the neuropsychiatric side effects associated with previous CB1-targeting small molecules.
Skye's clinical development program for nimacimab includes the CBeyond Phase 2a proof-of-concept trial, which evaluated nimacimab as both a monotherapy and in combination with semaglutide in adults with obesity or overweight. The combination arm demonstrated clinically meaningful weight loss improvements compared to semaglutide alone, with enhanced lean mass preservation and reduced weight rebound post-treatment. The company initiated an expansion study in March 2026 to assess intravenous administration of nimacimab at higher doses.
The company does not own manufacturing facilities and relies on third-party contract manufacturing organizations to produce nimacimab under current good manufacturing practices. In December 2025, Skye entered into a collaboration and license agreement with Halozyme, Inc. to utilize Halozyme's ENHANZE drug delivery technology for developing a subcutaneous co-formulation with nimacimab.
Skye's intellectual property portfolio includes three granted U.S. patents and 30 granted foreign patents covering nimacimab compositions and methods of treatment, with expiration dates between 2035 and 2036. Additional pending patent applications covering therapeutic uses for obesity and metabolic conditions have expected expiration dates no earlier than 2045.
The company is classified as a smaller reporting company and is not a well-known seasoned issuer. Skye operates in the highly competitive obesity and metabolic disorders treatment market, competing against established pharmaceutical companies developing GLP-1 receptor agonists and other novel therapeutics.
