In the company’s own words
SmartRent, Inc. (NYSE: SMRT) is an enterprise real estate technology company providing a comprehensive management platform designed for property owners, managers, and residents. The company operates through its website at www.smartrent.com and serves the residential real estate sector with integrated smart home solutions.
The company's core business centers on a scalable smart home operating system that combines cloud-based software-as-a-service solutions with smart building hardware. SmartRent's platform enables centralized visibility and control over real estate assets while delivering a differentiated living experience for residents. The company generates revenue through three primary channels: subscription fees for hosted services including access controls, asset monitoring, and WiFi; direct sales of smart home devices such as hub devices, door locks, thermostats, and sensors; and installation and implementation services.
SmartRent organizes its offerings into two main solution categories. Smart Communities Solutions include smart apartments, access control systems, self-guided tours, and package management capabilities. Smart Operations Solutions encompass work management, answer automation for call handling, audit management, and inspection management tools. The company's hardware offerings operate on a hardware-agnostic approach, integrating with third-party devices from manufacturers including Yale, Honeywell, Ring, and others while also manufacturing proprietary devices under the Alloy brand.
As of December 31, 2025, SmartRent had deployed 890,870 units across approximately 600 customers, including many of the largest multifamily residential owners in the United States. The company's customer base owns or operates approximately 6.6 million rental units, representing roughly thirteen percent of the U.S. market for institutionally owned multifamily rental units and single-family rental homes. Beyond multifamily properties, SmartRent serves single-family rental homeowners, homebuilders, and institutional buyers.
The company maintains 418 employees worldwide focused on engineering, software development, product development, and sales functions. SmartRent was formed through a business combination in August 2021 when Fifth Wall Acquisition Corp. I merged with Legacy SmartRent.com, Inc., resulting in the current corporate structure and NYSE listing.
