What TECOGEN INC. does

In the company’s own words

Tecogen Inc. (TGEN: NYSE American) is a Delaware-incorporated manufacturer of commercial and industrial natural-gas-fueled engine-driven combined heat and power systems and related energy solutions. The company's website is www.tecogen.com.

Tecogen operates through three primary business segments. The Products segment designs, manufactures, and sells cogeneration systems and chiller equipment under brands including InVerde e+, TecoPower, Tecochill, and Tecofrost, along with proprietary Ultera low-emissions technology. The Services segment provides operations and maintenance services through eight factory service centers located in California, Connecticut, Florida, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and Toronto, Canada, serving approximately 764 cogeneration units and 244 chillers under long-term maintenance contracts. The Energy Production segment, conducted through subsidiary American DG Energy Inc., owns and operates distributed generation systems that sell electricity, heat, hot water, and cooling to customers under long-term energy sales agreements, representing 4.9 percent of consolidated revenues. As of December 31, 2025, this segment operated 14 energy systems representing approximately 1,045 kilowatts of electrical capacity and 850 cooling tons of capacity.

Tecogen's products achieve greater than 88 percent efficiency compared to typical grid efficiencies of 40 to 50 percent, resulting in greenhouse gas emissions typically half that of the electrical grid. The company has shipped over 3,200 units since inception, with some operating for nearly 35 years. Primary customer markets include hospitals, nursing homes, schools, universities, hotels, office buildings, food processors, and data centers, concentrated in high-utility-rate regions including California, the Midwest, and Northeast.

The company holds exclusive license rights to microgrid algorithms through July 2027 and maintains exclusive rights for engine-driven systems under 500 kilowatts. Tecogen's Ultera emissions technology enables compliance with California's stringent air quality standards. In February 2025, the company entered into a global sales and marketing partnership with Vertiv Corporation for data center cooling applications, reflecting management's strategic focus on the artificial intelligence data center market as a significant growth opportunity.
