The business

The Timken Company (NYSE: TKN) operates as a global designer and manufacturer of engineered bearings and industrial motion products, supported by a comprehensive portfolio of complementary brands and services. Founded in 1899 by Henry Timken, the company has evolved from its origins in tapered roller bearing innovation to become a diversified industrial manufacturer serving customers across multiple end markets worldwide.

The company's core business centers on two primary segments: Engineered Bearings and Industrial Motion Products. The Engineered Bearings segment encompasses tapered, spherical, and cylindrical roller bearings; ball bearings; housed bearings; and plain bearings used across transportation, industrial, and infrastructure applications. The Industrial Motion segment includes linear motion solutions, industrial drives, automatic lubrication systems, belts, chains, couplings, industrial clutches and brakes, and sealing solutions. Timken also provides power systems services, bearing repair and remanufacturing, and specialty filtration products.

Timken operates a substantial global infrastructure comprising approximately 116 manufacturing facilities and service centers, 29 technology and engineering centers, and 74 distribution centers and warehouses across 44 countries. The company employs approximately 19,000 people worldwide. Its portfolio includes numerous established brands such as Timken, GGB, Philadelphia Gear, Cone Drive, CGI, Rollon, Nadella, Rosa Sistemi, Diamond, Lovejoy, Groeneveld, BEKA, Des-Case, and Lagersmit, among others.

The company maintains a diversified customer base spanning industrial distribution, renewable energy, automation, automotive original equipment manufacturers, agriculture, rail, aerospace, aftermarket, construction, metals and mining, heavy truck, and marine sectors. No single customer represents more than five percent of total net sales. Timken's competitive positioning rests on its technical expertise in metallurgy and friction management, application engineering capabilities, product quality, and global service support infrastructure. The company manages its raw material exposure through supplier diversification and contractual surcharge mechanisms, while maintaining research and development operations across North America, Europe, and Asia to support continued innovation in engineered solutions.
