Founded over 30 years ago as the inventor of the composite decking category, Trex designs and manufactures high-performance, low-maintenance, eco-friendly wood-alternative outdoor living products marketed under the Trex brand name. Trex manufactures its products in the United States at facilities in Virginia and Nevada, with a third manufacturing facility under development in Little Rock, Arkansas. The company's primary manufacturing process combines reclaimed wood fibers and recycled polyethylene film through proprietary extrusion techniques. As of December 31, 2025, Trex employed 1,839 full-time employees.
The company's comprehensive product portfolio includes composite decking, railing systems, fencing, cladding, fasteners, and outdoor lighting. Key decking product lines include Trex Signature, Trex Transcend Lineage, Trex Transcend, Trex Select, and Trex Enhance, each offering different aesthetic and price points. Railing offerings include cable rail, frameless glass rail, composite, and aluminum systems. For the year ended December 31, 2025, three customers represented approximately 73 percent of total net sales.
The company's products are composed of approximately 95 percent recycled and reclaimed materials, positioning Trex as one of North America's largest recyclers of waste polyethylene plastic film. Trex has received recognition for environmental stewardship, including inclusion on Barron's "100 Most Sustainable Companies" list for 2025 and LEED certification from the United States Green Building Council. The company competes primarily against wood products and other wood-alternative manufacturers including Azek, Deckorators, and Fiberon.
