What Tronox Holdings plc does

In the company’s own words

Tronox Holdings plc (NYSE: TROX) is the world's leading vertically integrated manufacturer of titanium dioxide pigment, operating through mining, beneficiation, smelting, and chemical processing operations across six continents. The company's website is http://www.tronox.com.

The company generates revenue from three primary product categories. Titanium dioxide pigment, marketed under the TIONA® and CristalActiv® brands, represents the largest revenue segment at approximately $2.3 billion annually. TiO2 pigment is used extensively in paints and coatings, plastics, paper, and numerous consumer applications due to its superior whiteness, brightness, and opacity properties. Zircon, a co-product of mineral sands mining, generated $274 million in revenue and serves applications in ceramic glazes, refractories, foundry molding sand, and specialty glass. Additional products including high purity pig iron, monazite, and titanium tetrachloride contributed $326 million in combined revenue.

Tronox operates titanium-bearing mineral sand mines and beneficiation facilities in Australia and South Africa, with annual production capacity of approximately 832,000 metric tons of titanium feedstock. The company maintains seven pigment manufacturing facilities located in the United States, Australia, Brazil, United Kingdom, France, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This vertical integration strategy enables the company to control feedstock supply and optimize production efficiency across its global operations.

The company serves approximately 1,200 customers across approximately 120 countries, including market leaders in major end-use industries. Geographic revenue distribution shows significant exposure to North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific regions. Tronox employs approximately 5,700 people globally and competes with major international producers including Chemours, LB Group, Kronos Worldwide, and INEOS, as well as numerous regional competitors.

Beyond traditional TiO2 operations, Tronox is developing rare earth oxide processing capabilities, leveraging monazite deposits from its mining operations to supply critical materials for electric vehicle motors and wind turbines. The company holds approximately 470 patents and patent applications globally, with substantial proprietary technology relating to chloride production processes and smelting operations.
