What TUCOWS INC does
In the company’s own words
Tucows Inc. (NASDAQ: TCX) operates as a diversified Internet services company providing domain registration, broadband Internet access, and telecommunications software solutions. The company's website is tucows.com.
The company organizes its operations into three primary segments. Tucows Domains provides wholesale and retail domain name registration services through recognized brands including OpenSRS, Enom, Ascio, EPAG, and Hover, managing 21.5 million domain names globally and serving a network of more than 32,000 resellers across approximately 200 countries. Ting delivers high-speed fiber and fixed wireless Internet access services to select markets throughout the United States, with access to 126,000 owned infrastructure serviceable addresses and 54,000 active accounts. Wavelo offers cloud-based software platforms and professional services to communication service providers, including subscription and billing management, network orchestration, and provisioning solutions.
Tucows employs approximately 759 full-time employees and 112 contracted employees globally, with roughly 54 percent based in Canada, 28 percent in the United States, and the remaining 18 percent distributed across Europe and other regions. The company maintains offices in Canada, the United States, Germany, and Denmark. Approximately 265 employees support Ting operations, 203 support Wavelo, 307 support Tucows Domains, and 96 support corporate functions and shared technology services.
The company's business model emphasizes recurring revenue through non-refundable, upfront payments and renewals, generating positive operating cash flow. Tucows maintains strong brand recognition in the domain registration industry, having been among the first 34 registrars accredited by ICANN in 1999. The company protects its intellectual property through trademark registrations, trade secret protections, and contractual restrictions.
During 2025, EchoStar represented 11.7 percent of total revenue as a significant customer across multiple segments. The company faces competition from major broadband providers in Internet services, established domain registrars in domain registration, and traditional BSS/OSS software providers in telecommunications software. Tucows continues to evaluate strategic alternatives for its Ting segment to address capital requirements and optimize its long-term operating model.
