What UNITY BANCORP INC does
In the company’s own words
Unity Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: UNTY) operates as a bank holding company providing comprehensive financial services through its principal subsidiary, Unity Bank. The company maintains its website at www.unitybank.com and serves as a financial holding company under Federal Reserve regulations, enabling it to engage in a broader scope of banking and financial activities than traditional bank holding companies.
The company's primary business involves ownership and supervision of Unity Bank, a New Jersey-chartered commercial bank that conducts traditional community-oriented banking operations. Unity Bank derives the majority of its revenue from net interest income, the difference between interest received on loans and securities and interest paid on deposits and borrowings. The bank offers a comprehensive suite of retail and commercial banking services including personal and business checking accounts, time deposits, money market accounts, savings accounts, credit cards, debit cards, wire transfers, safe deposit boxes, automated teller services, and internet and mobile banking capabilities. Additional services encompass retirement accounts, Automated Clearing House origination, Remote Deposit Capture, and CDARS/ICS reciprocal deposits through participation in the IntraFi Network LLC to provide FDIC insurance coverage for large dollar deposits.
The bank generates noninterest income through treasury solution fees, merchant fees, stop payment fees, wire transfer fees, insufficient fund charges, debit and credit card income, foreign ATM fees, and interchange fees. Additional revenue streams derive from residential, commercial, and Small Business Administration loan originations, servicing, and sales. The company engages in extensive lending activities offering commercial, SBA, consumer, mortgage, home equity, and personal loans, with a significant majority of loans secured by real estate collateral.
As of December 31, 2025, the company employed 239 full-time and 6 part-time employees. The bank operates twenty-two branches primarily along the Route 22 and Route 78 corridors across Bergen, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Morris, Ocean, Somerset, Union, and Warren counties in New Jersey, plus Northampton County in Pennsylvania. Through its banking locations and online services, the company supports clients throughout the New York City metropolitan area. The company maintains a trust subsidiary, Unity (NJ) Statutory Trust II, which has issued $10.3 million of preferred securities to investors.
