Varex Imaging Corporation (NASDAQ: VREX) is a leading innovator, designer, and manufacturer of X-ray imaging components and systems serving medical diagnostic imaging, security inspection, and industrial quality inspection applications. The company operates through two reportable segments: Medical and Industrial, which align its product offerings with customer use cases across these distinct markets.
The Medical segment designs and manufactures X-ray tubes, flat panel and photon counting detectors, high voltage connectors, image-processing software, workstations, 3D reconstruction software, computer-aided diagnostic tools, automatic exposure control devices, generators, and coolers for applications including computed tomography, mammography, oncology, cardiac, surgery, dental, fluoroscopy, and diagnostic radiography. The company produces over 27,000 X-ray tubes and 20,000 X-ray detectors annually, with an installed base exceeding 160,000 X-ray tubes and 170,000 detectors globally. The Industrial segment manufactures X-ray linear accelerators under the Linatron brand, cargo and baggage inspection systems, X-ray tubes, digital detectors, computed radiography scanners, and image-processing software for security screening at ports, borders, and airports, as well as nondestructive testing and inspection applications across aerospace, automotive, electronics, and manufacturing sectors.
Varex operates manufacturing facilities in the United States, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Germany, Finland, Philippines, China, and India, employing approximately 2,400 full-time equivalent employees. The company serves primarily large original equipment manufacturers, with its top five customers accounting for approximately 40 percent of total revenue. Canon Medical Systems Corporation is the largest customer, representing approximately 18 percent of fiscal year 2025 revenue. The company's top ten customers collectively account for approximately 52 percent of revenue.
Founded as a spinoff from Varian Medical Systems in January 2017, Varex maintains approximately 240 U.S. patents and 420 international patents, with approximately 210 patent applications pending.
