What Vistagen Therapeutics, Inc. does

In the company’s own words

Vistagen Therapeutics, Inc. (NASDAQ: VTGN) is a late-stage clinical therapeutics company focused on developing novel medicines for patients with neuropsychiatric and other disorders. The company operates through a pipeline of intranasal pherine product candidates, each designed with a neurocircuitry-focused mechanism of action that targets peripheral nasal chemosensory neurons to modulate specific brain circuits without requiring systemic absorption or direct uptake into the brain.

The company's most advanced program is fasedienol, currently in Phase 3 clinical development for the acute treatment of social anxiety disorder under the PALISADE program, which has received FDA fast track designation. Fasedienol represents a differentiated approach to anxiety treatment, designed to provide rapid-onset relief on an as-needed basis without the abuse liability and side effects associated with benzodiazepines and other systemic neuropsychiatric medications.

Vistagen's pipeline includes four additional intranasal pherine candidates in clinical development: itruvone for major depressive disorder, refisolone for moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms due to menopause and premenstrual dysphoric disorder, PH15 for psychomotor impairment due to mental fatigue, and PH284 for cancer cachexia. The company also maintains AV-101, an oral prodrug candidate targeting NMDAR-related neurological disorders including levodopa-induced dyskinesia and neuropathic pain, though the company is currently assessing third-party development opportunities for this asset.

The company has established strategic partnerships to maximize value across its pipeline, including an exclusive license and collaboration agreement with AffaMed Therapeutics for fasedienol development and commercialization in Greater China, South Korea, and Southeast Asia. Vistagen maintains an open investigational new drug application for multiple candidates and has received FDA fast track designations for itruvone and AV-101.

The company's intellectual property portfolio includes granted and pending patents covering its product candidates' therapeutic uses, formulations, nasal administration devices, and manufacturing processes across multiple jurisdictions. Vistagen engages contract development and manufacturing organizations and contract research organizations to support its development programs while maintaining operational flexibility.
