What WESTWATER RESOURCES, INC. does
In the company’s own words
Westwater Resources, Inc. (NYSE American: WWR) is an energy technology company focused on developing battery-grade natural graphite materials through a vertically integrated, mine-to-market strategy. The company operates two primary projects in Coosa County, Alabama: the Kellyton Graphite Plant, a processing facility under construction, and the Coosa Graphite Deposit, a graphite mineral resource available for future mining development.
The Kellyton Graphite Plant is designed to process natural flake graphite into coated spherical purified graphite (CSPG) and spherical graphite fines (SG Fines) for use as anode active material in lithium-ion batteries. Phase I of the facility is anticipated to produce approximately 12,500 metric tons of CSPG annually and 14,000 metric tons of SG Fines annually, with total Phase I capacity reaching 26,500 metric tons per year. Phase II is expected to increase total capacity to approximately 106,000 metric tons per year. As of December 31, 2025, cumulative project costs for the Kellyton Graphite Plant were approximately $128.2 million, with Phase I budgeted at approximately $245 million.
The Coosa Graphite Deposit, located near Rockford, Alabama, represents the company's upstream resource position. Westwater holds mineral rights to 41,965 acres for future mining development. The deposit is projected to contain mineralized material with an average grade of approximately 3.04% graphite content. The company plans to advance the deposit through permitting and staged development to eventually provide natural graphite flake concentrate feedstock to the Kellyton Graphite Plant. The deposit also contains vanadium, which the company plans to evaluate for potential future extraction.
Westwater's strategy emphasizes vertical integration to provide greater security of supply, improved control over raw-material quality, and enhanced operational visibility. The company has developed patented graphite-purification technologies using non-hydrofluoric acid processes designed to reduce environmental impact compared to conventional methods. Target markets include electric vehicles, consumer electronics, defense and aerospace applications, and battery energy storage systems.
The company maintains offtake agreements with SK On and Hiller Carbon and continues pursuing additional customer opportunities. Westwater currently sources graphite feedstock from Syrah Resources Limited and has established a backup supplier relationship to ensure supply chain continuity.
