The business

Aurora Innovation, Inc. (Nasdaq: AUR) is a self-driving technology company founded in 2017 that develops autonomous vehicle systems designed to transform transportation across multiple markets. The company's website is www.aurora.ai.

Aurora's core product is the Aurora Driver, a Level 4 autonomous driving platform comprising integrated hardware, software, and data services. The Aurora Driver is engineered as a common platform adaptable across multiple vehicle types and applications, from Class 8 trucks to passenger vehicles to light commercial vehicles. The company has successfully integrated its technology into numerous vehicle platforms and operates through a Driver as a Service business model, generating revenue on a subscription or per-mile basis rather than through vehicle ownership.

The company operates across three primary market segments. Aurora Driver for Freight represents its first commercial product, launched in April 2025 with driverless operations on trucking routes. Aurora Driver for Rides targets the ride-hailing market through partnerships with major mobility platforms. Aurora Driver for Local Goods Delivery addresses last-mile parcel, food, and B2B delivery applications.

Aurora's technology incorporates proprietary FirstLight Lidar using frequency-modulated continuous-wave technology enabling long-range sensing critical for highway speeds. The company employs a "Verifiable AI" approach combining artificial intelligence and machine learning with rule-based engineering. Its Virtual Testing Suite enables simulation equivalent to over 125,000 trucks on the road, accelerating development beyond traditional on-road testing methodologies.

As of December 31, 2025, Aurora employed approximately 1,900 people, with roughly 1,600 focused on engineering and product development. The company maintains over 2,000 awarded and pending patents worldwide.

Aurora's go-to-market strategy relies on deep strategic partnerships with industry leaders including PACCAR, Volvo, Toyota, Uber, and AUMOVIO (formerly Continental). These partnerships enable Aurora to focus on technology development while partners handle vehicle manufacturing, fleet operations, and commercial services. The company operates test vehicles across Arizona, California, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Texas, with initial commercial deployment concentrated in Texas.

Fund ownership counts N-PORT filers only, so it is a floor rather than a census — pensions, insurers and direct holders are not visible here, and the remainder is not “held by individuals”.

Fund ownership is a subset of institutional 13F ownership — the two describe overlapping populations and must not be added together.
