The Bank's principal business involves originating loans, with commercial real estate and commercial and industrial loans representing key portfolio focuses. The Bank funds these loans primarily through retail and commercial deposits while also investing in mortgage-backed securities, government securities, and corporate securities.
Revenue derives principally from interest income on loans and securities, supplemented by fees from bankcard services, trust and fiduciary services, deposit account services, mortgage banking activity, bank-owned life insurance income, and commercial loan swap income. The Bank discontinued residential and consumer loan originations in October 2025, transitioning to a strategic partnership with a national mortgage banking company for residential mortgage origination services.
OceanFirst operates in a competitive regional market characterized by significant competition from larger financial institutions, credit unions, mortgage banking companies, and financial technology companies. The company distinguishes itself through teams of local financial experts providing personalized service and local decision-making. The Foundation, established during the company's 1996 initial public offering, has distributed over $51.1 million to support health and human services, education, affordable housing, youth development, and arts initiatives in the communities served.
