What RENAISSANCERE HOLDINGS LTD does

In the company’s own words

RenaissanceRe Holdings Ltd. (NYSE: RNR) is a global provider of reinsurance and insurance solutions headquartered in Bermuda with offices across Australia, Canada, Ireland, Singapore, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The company's website is www.renre.com.

Founded in 1993, RenaissanceRe operates through two primary reportable segments: Property and Casualty and Specialty. The Property segment, representing 42.1 percent of gross premiums written, encompasses catastrophe reinsurance and other property coverage protecting against natural and man-made disasters including earthquakes, hurricanes, typhoons, and winter storms. The Casualty and Specialty segment, comprising 57.9 percent of gross premiums written, includes general casualty, professional liability, credit, and specialty lines such as cyber, aviation, marine, and energy reinsurance.

The company generates diversified earnings through three principal drivers: underwriting income from core reinsurance and insurance operations, fee income from managing third-party capital through joint ventures and managed funds, and investment income from its portfolio. RenaissanceRe's Capital Partners unit manages several significant joint ventures and managed funds including DaVinci, Fontana, Medici, Vermeer, Top Layer, and Upsilon, which collectively provide access to additional capital and expand underwriting capacity across property catastrophe and casualty and specialty risks.

RenaissanceRe's competitive advantages center on superior risk selection, superior customer relationships, and superior capital management. The company employs proprietary pricing and exposure management technology called REMS©, which integrates probabilistic and deterministic modeling techniques to assess risk and return across its portfolio. The company writes business on a proportional basis, excess of loss basis, and through delegated authority arrangements, with geographic exposure diversified across the United States and Caribbean, worldwide markets, Europe, Japan, and Australia and New Zealand.

The company's principal wholly-owned operating subsidiaries include Renaissance Reinsurance, RREAG, Renaissance Reinsurance U.S., RenaissanceRe Specialty U.S., Syndicate 1458, and Renaissance Reinsurance of Europe DAC. In 2025, RenaissanceRe wrote total gross premiums of approximately $11.7 billion, maintaining its position as a significant participant in global reinsurance markets.
