What HERC HOLDINGS INC does

In the company’s own words

Herc Holdings Inc. (NYSE: HRI) is one of the leading equipment rental suppliers in North America, operating 602 locations across 46 U.S. states and five Canadian provinces. The company conducts substantially all operations through Herc Rentals Inc., leveraging over 60 years of industry experience to serve a diverse customer base spanning contractors, industrial operators, infrastructure projects, and commercial facilities.

The company's core business centers on equipment rental across multiple categories. As of December 31, 2025, Herc's rental fleet consisted of equipment with a total original equipment cost of $9.5 billion, with composition including aerial equipment at 26 percent, material handling at 22 percent, specialty equipment at 18 percent, earthmoving at 13 percent, and other categories at 21 percent. Beyond rental operations, Herc generates revenue through sales of used rental equipment, new equipment and supplies, and ancillary services including equipment transport, maintenance, repair, fleet management, and safety training.

Herc's industry-specific solutions include ProSolutions, offering specialized equipment and services such as power generation, climate control, remediation and restoration, and pump and trench shoring solutions, alongside ProContractor, which focuses on professional-grade tools and equipment. National accounts represented 49 percent of equipment rental revenue in 2025, providing longer rental durations and recurring revenue streams.

The company employs approximately 9,600 people and maintains a geographically diversified customer base with no single customer representing more than 3 percent of equipment rental revenue. Customer segments include contractors at 38 percent of rental revenue, industrial customers at 25 percent, infrastructure and government at 18 percent, commercial facilities at 14 percent, and other customers at 5 percent.

Herc's competitive advantages include significant scale and national footprint, diverse customer markets, a large high-quality equipment fleet from leading manufacturers, an established national accounts program, superior customer service reputation, and value-added services. The company was spun off from Hertz Holdings in June 2016 to focus exclusively on equipment rental. In June 2025, Herc completed the acquisition of H&E Equipment Services, Inc., adding approximately 160 locations and over 2,500 team members, substantially expanding its footprint and fleet capabilities.
