The investment objective of the Portfolio is to seek current income and long-term growth of income, as well as capital appreciation.

Strategy · summarised

The fund invests at least 80% of its assets in equity and equity-related securities of large capitalization companies within the Russell 1000 Index range, with up to 20% in foreign securities. Day-to-day management is delegated to five subadvisers—ClearBridge Investments, Dimensional Fund Advisors, Hotchkis and Wiley Capital Management, J.P. Morgan Investment Management, and Putnam Investment Management—whose allocations are determined by the Manager's Strategic Investment Research Group based on market conditions and risk analysis. The fund may hold common and preferred stock, convertible securities, ETFs, and derivatives tied to common stock.

The outer band is exposure held short — written against the portfolio rather than part of it, which is why it sits outside the ring and why the two are never netted into one figure.
