Columbia Select Mid Cap Growth Fund (the Fund) seeks significant capital appreciation by investing, under normal market conditions, at least 80% of its net assets (plus any borrowings for investment purposes) in stocks of companies with a market capitalization, at the time of initial purchase, equal to or less than the largest stock in the Russell Midcap Index.
The fund invests in common stocks of mid-cap companies within the Russell Midcap Index range, selected for potential long-term above-average earnings growth, and typically holds a focused portfolio of fewer securities than peers. The fund may emphasize particular sectors, invest in special situations including IPOs and restructurings, and allocate up to 20% of assets to foreign securities. Because the fund employs a focused investing style with concentrated holdings, performance depends heavily on the success of a limited number of positions. The fund may trade portfolio securities frequently.
